Small Business Owners are challenged from the perspective of “What we don’t know” more so than “What we do know”. The result is that 80% of all small businesses fail within the first two years of operations. Yet, more than 90% of franchises are still in business 10 years later.  What's the difference? Support, Research, Access to Expertise, A Proven Support System, and many other things.

Small Business Owners need the same type of system.  Using a network of successful small business professional, the ingredients of a franchise can be mimicked to provide access to those ingredients of success for the Small Business Entrepreneur while still maintaining their independence and autonomy.

Michael E. Gerber's Book "The E-Myth Revisited" describes the different 'personalities' of the small business owner as the Entrepreneur, the Manager and the Technician.  Most Small Business Owners operate daily as the Technician.  That is they have a specialized skill, and for the most part are good at this skill or "What they do know". It is when the owner steps outside that technical skill into the area of "What they don't know" that the real problems begin. Some of these problem areas are determining which type of Legal Entity is best, (d/b/a, sole proprietor, partnership, "S" corp, "C" corp, etc.), writing a Business Plan, defining Marketing Issues, being in compliance with Local Taxing Authorities, maintaining proper Accounting Records, and of course, complying with Uncle Sam. The myriad of problems are not easy to over come. The result is often failure. The franchise owner has the same problems, however, the franchise has simply addressed the issues, and has put a process in place to solve most of the problems.

The Business Builders Network (BBN) of Texas was founded to be the "franchise concept" for the small business owners. BBN Texas will be a network of professional business owners, each being a technician in their field of expertise that allows them to assist other businesses.  BBN Texas has developed this network to help the Small Business Owner to be more profitable. We will initially focus our efforts on Travis and Williamson County, to implement a process that will help some small businesses achieve a franchise type success.
